Write the direction before the number

An exchange rate needs two currencies and a direction. 'Naira per dollar' tells you how many naira one dollar represents. To estimate dollars into naira, multiply the dollar amount by that rate. To estimate naira into dollars using the same rate, divide the naira amount by it.

The general converter makes this explicit: it displays how many units of the target currency equal one unit of the source currency. If you enter your own quote, use that exact direction. Swapping currencies clears your own rate so a quote is not silently applied backwards.

Choose one source for the calculation

The official option supports the naira against USD, GBP and EUR. The international reference option supports the currencies in the selector, including foreign currency to foreign currency. It uses one ExchangeRate-API dataset to calculate the selected pair; it does not combine a CBN dollar rate with another provider's euro rate.

Reference data updates daily. It is suitable for an indicative comparison or a budget estimate, not a live executable quote. The converter displays the provider's update time. If reference data is too old or cannot be checked, it leaves the result unavailable until you enter a quote or the service recovers.

Use the same amounts when comparing

Keep the sending amount and receiving currency fixed, then compare the net receipts. Add known fees only once. If a provider gives an all-in payout, do not subtract charges already included in it again.

Rounding occurs at display time. Very small results may show more decimal places so they do not disappear into zero. The provider may round differently or impose minimum amounts. Your actual quote remains the figure to confirm before a transaction.
