A good sample is evidence, not a production guarantee
A Nigerian buyer can receive an excellent sample and still need to establish what the production order must match. A sample may be handmade, selected from another batch or produced using a different material. Ask the supplier how it relates to the factory process proposed for your actual quantity.
Keep the sample's identity, photographs and agreed specification together. A phrase such as same as sample is hard to evaluate without an identified sample and acceptance criteria. Record dimensions, materials, finish, functional requirements and packaging, including which differences are unacceptable.
Define tests a reviewer can actually perform
Distinguish a visual check from measurement and a functional or laboratory test. A photograph can show packaging appearance but cannot establish material composition or electrical safety. Ask which checks require specialist equipment, a recognised laboratory or regulatory evidence.
For example, an illustrative packaging brief might require the correct model label, carton count and a defined protective insert. That is not a complete inspection standard for a regulated product. Product-specific safety and compliance requirements need the relevant technical expertise and Nigerian authority guidance.
Specify the batch and inspection point
Write down which goods will be inspected, where the check takes place and when it happens relative to production completion, packing and payment. An early factory visit answers different questions from examining a completed batch. Inspection should have an agreed scope rather than a vague promise to check quality.
If only a sample of units is inspected, have the sampling plan and acceptance criteria agreed by competent parties. Do not treat a small sample as proof that every unit is defect-free. Ask how inaccessible cartons, incomplete production or substituted components will be reported.

Agree the remedy before finding a defect
Record whether a failed check leads to rework, replacement, cancellation or another agreed remedy. Identify who pays reinspection and transport costs, and how changes affect the delivery date. These terms belong in the order agreement, not only in messages after a problem occurs.
Tie any inspection-related payment milestone to the evidence the agreement actually requires. An inspection report is not automatically a bank guarantee or payment protection. If the seller proposes a different factory or material, confirm the change and revisit approvals rather than assuming the old sample still applies.
Keep regulatory certification distinct from your commercial check
SON's conformity processes and the buyer's order inspection serve different purposes. Establish which Nigerian product requirements apply and which evidence covers the shipment. A successful cosmetic inspection should not be described as regulatory approval.
Keep the final specification, inspection report, correspondence and shipment identifiers in the same private order file. LagosXchange does not inspect factories or endorse suppliers. This article provides a framework for a written brief; an actual product needs qualified technical review and the relevant certification route.
